The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: User Interfaces

The way you interact with any application, let it be a Desktop application, phone application or web application, you need to use some kind of user interface. Making a good user interface is vital to make your application smooth and intuitive to the user. Some websites can be a pleasure to navigate through, some of them can be just not intuitive enough, and some of them are just plain ugly, and that's why in this blog I will present three examples of websites, the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Good This is Udacity.com , a website for online learning. I categorized this website as the good, because, because beside being a really useful site for learning, its user interface is beautiful and intuitive to the user.  The design of this site, was made thinking about the user experience, the layout is very responsive and works on all platforms. Udacity is truly an example of a good website. The Bad This website should seriously win the bad and the ugly!  This is Bel...

Youtube

When it comes to useful websites, there is one site that I always think of, youtube.com . It is one of the most visited websites on the Internet, and certainly one of the most powerful and influential one. I chose YouTube as one of the most useful websites, because of the amount of resources you can find in it. YouTube is a very popular video hosting website. It is playing an important role in defining current pop culture on a global scale. I think it is on of the most useful websites, because it contains a massive amount of video resources. YouTube is also a great platform, that allows your videos to reach an incredible amount of people. Another reason that YouTube is useful is that it can be used as a social platform too, letting people know of events happening as well as life streaming. Overall, youtube.com is a really useful website. It has its pros and cons. If You need to watch a tutorial on pretty much anything, you can most certainly find it on YouTube. I would recommen...

Learn Something New

Want to learn something new? If you are familiar with online courses, you have probably noticed the amount of websites that offer free and paid online courses. Most of these websites let you use very basic introductory courses for free, and then you need to pay if you want to take any of the more advanced courses. One day, while browsing the web for resources and free education, I stumble across a website that is very simple, very useful, and free! khanacademy.org . It quickly became one of my favorite websites. khanacademy.org is an online non-profit educational organization, that aims to create a set of online tools to help educate students.  I think Khan Academy is one of the most useful websites out there, because their content is high quality, there is not need to create an account to start learning, and it is completely FREE!. Also, Khan Academy offers a variety of courses on different topics ranging from, Math, English, and Engineering, to Computer Science, and many mo...

Need Answers?

If you have ever try to look for answers to any question on the web, you know how hard it can be to filter the good answers from the bad and fake ones. I am adding Quora.com to my interesting websites, because you can answers straight from professionals in the field, and approve by other professionals and the quora community. Quora.com is a question-and-answer site where questions are asked, answered, edited, and organized by its community of users. The design and layout of quora are very simple, with a nav-bar and a search bar on the top, to search for specific questions and answers, and a quora logo. I find Quora.com an interesting website, because the systems it uses to display the answers. This system consist on displaying on top the answers that have been answered by a professional on the subject, and have been voted as useful by the quora community. You may ask, How do we know that those professionals are real and not just trolls? Aside from using the voting system to bub...

Just Google.com

I have chosen Google.com as one of the websites I find interesting, because it is one of the simplest looking you can find on the Internet, but also is one if not the most powerful websites on the web. Google.com is a search engine that allows people search on the for almost anything on the Internet. It uses the technology of crawlers and the page algorithm to quickly index websites and save them in their database. This technique allows them to render results to queries performed by users, incredibly fast.  The website as it is, seems very simple, just the Google logo, a search, and I'm feeling lucky buttons, and an empty text field designed for the user to type their search keywords.  One of the main features of Google.com is the ability to predict your search based on the words you start typing. In conclusion, although many competitors, like Yahoo.com or Bing.com , are good at giving you relevant results to your search, Google with its simple fast loading website a...
